Hello everyone from a new issue.

Usually, two questions about skin come to mind when we talk about summer. The first one is the spotting which is present during summer. The other one is the moisture loss that is intensely felt on the skin. I handled these two titles in our new issue for you, my dear readers.

The first title; how should we moisturize our skin in summer?

The sebum, which is formed on the surface of the skin, is a protective barrier for our skin. Sebum is made up of wens and maintains a pH balance with various acids contained in fat cells.

The skin is dehydrated with sunrays and hot air during summertime. So, the pH balance of the skin is damaged. Using a moisturizer is an important factor for skin health during summertime as well as wintertime. Intense moisturizers, which maintain a pH balance, meet the daily moisture need of the skin.

We also recommend people, who work at air-conditioned spaces, to use intense moisturizers. The skin cannot maintain the needed pH as a result of the air imbalance provided by the air-conditioner and the skin loses its moisture.

Wrinkles, which is one of the main symptoms of aging due to dryness, start to emerge on the dry skin. So, we need to take care of our skin and hydrate it.

How do we moisturize our skin?

Drinking plenty of water is one of the most important steps. Even though, the moisturizers that we use as an outsource, reach the underlayer of the skin, sometimes it cannot moisturize the skin properly. The plenty of water we drink, balances the needed pH that our skin could not get.

Another step is using a moisturizer which contains hyaluronic acid because hyaluronic acid is capable of retaining water up to 1,000 times its own weight and therefore, provides plenty of moisture that your skin needs.

You can also prefer medical applications such as moisture vaccines that work as moisture bombs. Hyaluronic acid-based applications, which are applied as a moisture vaccine, help you have a shiny and dewy look by keeping your skin moisturized for a long time.

Another question that comes to mind is the sunspots. Cells or in other words, melanocytes, which color our skin, take place on the upper layer of the skin and produces pigment, melanin. Sunspots emerge within the imbalanced production of melanin caused by the sunrays.

What can we do to prevent sunspots?

Even though, the probability of sunspots emerging during summer is much higher, there’s still a possibility during winter. The first thing to do is to be protected from the sun. We should avoid sunbathing and going out in the sun between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., when UV rays are harmful during summertime.

Another precaution is sunscreens, which are the most powerful weapons we have to be protected from sunspots. So, it is necessary to apply sunscreen. We should pay attention that the sunscreen has definitely SPF 30 or more high protection factor, it is protective effect against UVA/UVB rays, and prefer the ones which reflect UV rays with mineral such as zinc. In addition, the skin being moisturized is very important to avoid the sunspots.

One of the things we need to avoid is any peeling and irritating applications, which trigger sunspots to emerge because the skin barrier can get damaged and spotting can easily emerge. The spot-treatments such as laser treatment should be preferred during fall and wintertime. These treatment methods can make your skin become sensitive to the harmful effects of sun and fastens the emergence of sunspots.

Take care of yourself and your skin until I see you in the next article.
