Artificial intelligence has finally come knocking at our door, and Asimov’s 3 Laws of Robotics have become a reality. From this point on, we will witness artificial intelligence and its algorithms in every aspect of our lives. A new era has begun, and rest assured, humanity will never be the same again.
So, what does it mean for me (from my perspective and expertise) to make artificial intelligence a topic of discussion?
Where and how did artificial intelligence and aesthetics meet and will continue to intersect?
First and foremost, artificial intelligence in its current evolution is defined as ‘GPT,’ which stands for “Generative Pre-trained Transformer.” This term explains the fundamental function and structure of artificial intelligence.
“Generative” emphasizes the model’s ability to generate realistic and meaningful text.
“Pre-trained” means the model has been pre-trained with a large dataset of text.
Finally, “Transformer” indicates that the model is based on the “Transformer” architecture, a type of deep learning model used in natural language processing tasks such as language understanding and text generation. Many GPT-based models rely on this foundational model.
In my previous articles, I mentioned that the concept of aesthetics is neither absolute nor a single concept, and its meaning and expression change in both time and space. I even explained that there is a mathematical harmony in this and when the human face and body conform to these mathematical patterns, they are aesthetically appreciated. This is exactly where artificial intelligence may intersect with aesthetics. Artificial intelligence can capture the trends of a particular era by evaluating an individual’s socio-cultural, economic, racial, and general cultural conditions, creating a unique aesthetic situation for you, which I call a “situation” because it has become a connection between you and your era.
Let’s illustrate this with an example: Suppose you are 1.65 meters tall, weigh 58 kg, have a dark complexion, and work as a banker. You also enjoy high-intensity exercises like crossfit and dancing, especially waltz. You have a character that enjoys camping and being in nature, and you prefer makeup in a natural style for social purposes.
Now, we load into this artificial intelligence algorithm how we should plan a breast implant for you, and as a result, we create a breast aesthetic form that suits you both mentally and physically. We might even decide on their sizes.
Let’s provide another example; let’s create a sample for facial aesthetics. Our patient is a 48-year-old woman, 1.73 meters tall, weighing 60 kilograms, of Caucasian race with Fitzpatrick skin type 2-3. She is a senior executive in a company, likes to express her femininity, and enjoys wearing makeup in social environments. She has an authoritative and perfectionist character and prefers vibrant colors in her personal life and more formal colors at work. She enjoys sports such as pilates and boxing, and her music taste includes techno and R&B. Based on her entire demographic and cultural structure, we can plan the rejuvenation process for this patient, categorizing it as light, moderate, and strong procedures. If we classify the tension of her eyebrows and mid-face as mild, moderate, and strong results, what type of outcome will cover all her dynamics and be both reflective and harmonious with her? With the data we load into this artificial intelligence and the guide it produces based on these data, we might be entering surgery with an algorithm similar to a guide.
I am doing these questions and character analyses, whether I perform a small or large procedure. Since aesthetic plastic surgery needs to be personalized, the information derived from the needs and desires revealed in my conversations with the patient becomes my guiding principle in planning procedures and surgeries. Apparently, in the near future, these conversations will be conducted with artificial intelligence and technological tools, utilizing computers.
It seems that in the coming days, we will witness many more delightful and surprising situations where aesthetics and artificial intelligence converge.
